Who We Are
ASCC is a consortium of multi-type libraries using a common library automation system via the ASP model (Application Service Provider).
Currently, ASCC uses the Dynix Horizon system, including circulation, cataloging, serials, and acquisitions functions, as well as a web-accessible catalog and remote patron authentication. The Horizon ASP system works well with the Colorado Virtual Library and with SWIFT, which is Colorado's electronic ILL system.
The ASP method of delivery provides a powerful automation system to libraries of all sizes, which access their own data through standard Internet connections. For the smallest users, it can even work on a dial-up connection.
Initially, ASCC was awarded an LSTA grant in 2001 to get the project off the ground. Then, it received a second year of LSTA grant funding in 2002 to add more libraries. The grants covered conversion and first-year expenses for participating libraries. Considerable administrative and financial support was provided by the High Plains Regional Library Service System and the Plains and Peaks Regional Library Service System, which closed their offices in 2004.
ASCC will continue offering its members services under the direction of an elected board, supported by membership fees (currently $100 per seat).
